I was dozing in the lazyboy a minute ago and had this little dream. In it, I was at this library getting some books. The librarian had the face of a black guy, and the body of a black elephant. He lumbered thru the stacks just like an elephant, picking his massive feet/legs up slowly and deliberately.

I went home to discover that Johnny had accepted some "free" beds our friends were giving away, and was busily setting them up in different bedrooms. I was scrambling around from room to room going, WTF, why don't we vacuum at least before setting these goddamned things up? The floor was covered with bits of straw and other debris! My mom was there and was trying to clean for me but Johnny was in the way with his free furniture (junk).

I looked down at my hand, and there was a massive pearl-topped hat pin stuck thru the skin on my middle finger, right where it bends. I pulled it out and a large chunk of flesh came with it. All the wrinkles I would have had on my finger joint were torn clear off. I stared in horror as the blood welled up & flowed, and then I think I passed out. I woke up, and my finger was sore, so I quickly checked to make sure it wasn't bleeding. D: I hate fucked up dreams.

Today I had my first go-kart race. I've never actually raced them before, but I've ridden them (hello, redneck girl from Ohio), and I remembered them being fun but holy cow. Today I went with some members of the Ski Club of W-S. 7 dudes and 2 chicks, including me. I was under the impression that the girls would have their girly races and the boys would have their manly races but OH NO. We all raced together. For dudes, go-kart racing is serious business. They are hell bent. They're passing me sideways and freaking my shit out. For the first race, I was terrified. I was yelling into my helmet "I HATE THIS WHY DID I AGREE TO SUCH SHIT OMG" but by the 3rd race I had it down and clocked my fastest speed on the final lap at 35 seconds. Which is a vast improvement from my slowest time of a minute and 6 seconds. D: D:

And now, I cannot wait to do it again.

I get to spend Easter Weekend alone. It only hit me after Johnny left for Richmond to visit with his brother and niece. My parents are spending my mom's Spring Break in Vegas, so no need to go to Ohio for Easter. I never even liked easter (not since I stopped getting baskets full of candy and gifts anyway), so I don't know why I am bummed. I have to work this weekend, so there was no chance I would be going anywhere, but still. I don't normally feel lonely, but right now I am. It is a weird sensation.

I hate when people complain about winter. My allergy technician complains about it every time I see her. "Oh, I've had enough of this cold weather. Can't wait til Spring is here!" Every. Single. Time. I'm terribly sick of her shtick. She's the nicest, most benign lady too - and I'm beginning to dislike her intensely.

Why not find something enjoyable to do during the cold dark winter months? That is what I do. I change into pajamas every day after work and relax my ass off. I watch What Not To Wear, or read, or just chill. I love it. If it's not your favorite season, work it anyway. Be happy, because what is the alternative? You can't control the weather.

During warmer months, I am more active during the evening and I go to more happy hours. I'm apt to go rock climbing and get home at 11:30 on a Tuesday night. I too look forward to Winston in the Springtime when all the flowers and trees are in bloom and it's beyond ridiculously gorgeous. But I like Winter too.

The first wedding anniversary is approaching. It's less than a month away. I'm thinking of some getaways, but in the back of my mind, I remember how cold it was in the mountains of NC during mid-March. Well, so what. It makes hot-tubbing even more fun.

Remind me that I said all this when it's 95degF and I'm bitching about the heat. =)

After four months of living here, I've noticed a few more interesting things about Winston-Salem, NC

People in Winston don't say "excuse me." ever. They prefer to wait, looking all around or down at their feet, until you happen to notice their predicament and move aside without being asked. This happened today when J and I were at Moe's .. this woman tried to squeeze behind him in line, but there was barely any room. J, not knowing someone was trying to get past him, stepped back as if on cue and crushed her against the dividing wall, and the bitch still didn't say excuse me or so much as acknowledge that she just got schooled. You do not encounter this kind of fuckery in Richmond, so it surprises me every time it happens.

This city was planned really stupidly. All the parking lots are an exercise in frustration. There's just not enough room, not enough easy exits. The mall area is the biggest joke of all. 80% of the commerce in this town takes place on Hanes Mall Blvd, or at the Hanes Mall itself, and the surrounding area. The lights are looooong, and of course the traffic gets backed way up and curling around here and there until mayhem ensues. It's easy to get caught in a traffic jam there, so the best thing to do is to avoid the scene entirely during the holidays, which is putting a serious crimp in my holiday shopping.

The topography here is really roly-poly, and I really like it except when I'm at a traffic light on an incline. Also, everytime we look at a house, J points out that the property is "not flat." lol

There are some stunningly gorgeous areas in this little ol' town. We just looked at this horrid fixer-upper of a house and really wanted to like it because it was on a fabulous, beautiful street in an optimal location. But it was ridiculous. Our realtor said it was the kind of house that rich ppl buy and tear down so they can build a new house on the lot.

On old John M Gold highway (nc-52), the exit ramps are suicidally short. People get stuck on them all the time because NC drivers do not believe in "helpin' 'em merge".

NC drivers = the world's worst and most assholish, and I've become an even bigger asshole, just to compensate.

I will be adding to this list as things occur to me.

My bb kitty is so tired today. She's slept nonstop. She was very clingy at my parents' house over the holiday weekend, and wouldn't sleep unless we were out. Every minute she was either following me or sitting on me. =( I'm debating whether to leave her at the apartment over xmas or take her with me (she hates the car, too).

Had a good thanksgiving; the food was amazing this year. I have no hope that I can ever duplicate Mom's skill with the gravy. A family friend died-- one of my dad's union/hunting/4-wheelin buddies, and I attended the viewing on Friday. The boy whose dad died was asking me where I was living ... I told him, and he responded, "Visit them every chance you get, honey." It made me so sad. He was so close to his dad.

1.
The Class of '91 are stirring around for a 20 yr. reunion. I'm actually amenable to it. How much weirdness is that? I always figured I'd boycott reunions. But I like my H.S. classmates. This is coming from someone who wanted to do cartwheels when we graduated. It's not the people I was happy to be leaving. I just knew that my life after graduation would be way better than life before it, and it totally was.

my blistery feet are cold. and, it's not because I have the a/c cranked. I love it.

Public toilets are not any cleaner than the average-cleaned toilet in someone's house. Better yet, public toilets are CLEANER than the average wad of cash you come into contact with all the time, getting it all over your hands, right before using those same mitts to grab onto your sandwich. I see it every day and that is what grosses me out.
Thanks for being one of the millions of douchebag women who hover over the seat, piss all the fuck over it, leave it there for the next person, and then complain that public toilets are filthy.
My life is so right. Hope this lasts forever and ever.

Had a perfect weekend that began with a fun episode of How Do I Look (girl was a huge bitch). Followed by seeing my bbs Joanny and Black Kitty. Spent quality time with them both. Weekend ended with dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. Complaining is my wont, but I cannot do it right now.

Buddy is squalling for attention at the moment, but that's okay, he's entitled. We've upset his environment enough in the past month. I'm actually forcing myself to stay awake until 11:00, else wake up at 3:00 am, unable to fall back asleep, and needing to drive back to Winston-Salem, NC. That's no fun. Everytime I go to sleep at 10:30-11:00, I have a hopeless night, but if I sleep anytime after 11:00 I get a full 7 hours or more. Don't know why that is.

I know that everyone and their brothers has a laptop already, but I just got my first one, and I'm just stoked. I hate windows vista, but I am stoked. It's like discovering an amazing album by your favorite band which you'd initially discarded but later realized its greatness, and then listening to it over and over again. Those old "grow on you" records. The best ones you ever knew. That's another thing lifting me up these days... finding music that I love. I haven't felt this way in forever. Running on the treadmill gives me such joy now that I can listen to interesting music. :-o

I'm in RIC and having a good time. Today has been great all around except Buddy cried almost the whole way here, so there goes my bragging about him being such a good "car cat". :(( The poor wuggums.

Just got back from RIC, my first visit back since moving(!). It's really not a bad drive, just three and a half hours. I'm going again this coming weekend. The house still needs so much work before it can go on the market, and Joanny needs help. I better not find Black Kitty wandering around the front stoop this time, like I did when I got into town. My eyes had been bothering me all evening and I could hardly see, so when I first saw her, I wasn't sure if it were her. She yeowled when I picked her up and checked her collar, and then I was like OMG, WOT R U DOING OUT HERE MISSY. Apparently she'd escaped the backyard again. She's not supposed to be out after dark anyway, because I'm scared she'll get into a fight with a raccoon, but I can't enforce that rule when I'm not home. This is probably why she loves Joanny and ignores me.

Speaking of which, it was so good to see him again. The novelty of living in a new town is beginning to wear off, and I'd gotten quite homesick. I about had a meltdown on Thursday. I've just been away from home for too long. Homeboy is lookin fierce, by the way. He's really tan from all that work in the sun and has lost weight.

We were busier than birddogs, but it was all good and fun. Friday night we went out with some peeps. Saturday I got my hair cut, had lunch with Gil, then we went out that night to socialize with more peeps. I miss having peeps. Will have to find some NC peeps to hang with. Another fun thing I got to do (finally) was start cleaning up Joanny's office. I got permission to throw out magazines and get his papers filed. I have been wanting to do this forever, and he wouldn't let me. He finally saw the light on Sunday, and I didn't waste time scooping up the ginormous pile of paper covering his office floor and hauling out magazines. I made great progress on the filing, too. I still have several plastic bins full of papers to sort out and file, which I plan to do this weekend. If that doesn't sound fun to you, then you've no idea of the foolishness and mayhem that boy had going on in there. Ohh!

I am slowly beginning to love Spoon's GaGaGaGaGa. These guys are the very essence of coolness. At first I was a little bit disappointed not to find an "I Summon You" in it (ie., an immediate, intense love-fest), but the records I have loved the most tended to be the ones that had to grow on me.

I don't get the title, though. I'm past the days of googling my favorite band and finding out everything there is to know about them. It will have to remain a mystery.

I am also liking Iron and Wine just a lil' bit. Their The Shepherd's Dog made me feel sort of foolish for the purchase at first, but once again, I gave it a few tries and now it's not so bad. The best song is at the end: "Flightless Bird, American Mouth".

No more to report at this time. Thank u and goodnight. x(
